The brief
Rosa's is a modern Thai restaurant in London's Soho, run by Soho Investments Ltd. Cool Stream Ventilation was engaged to supply and install an extraction system over Chinese and English cookers in the basement kitchen.
What we delivered
- Two stainless steel extraction canopies fitted with stainless steel baffle-type filters, linked to ductwork
- A Medem gas interlock system wired to the fresh air fan and extract fan, shutting off the gas valve automatically on fan failure
- Ductwork engineered to be as small as possible given very low basement ceilings, avoiding any protrusion below ceiling level
- Ductwork routed from the basement to ground floor, then up at least four storeys through an external light-well to terminate at roof level, with fresh air supply following the same route
- Toilet extract and fresh air input installed in the basement rear of the restaurant
- Servicing of existing air conditioning units on the ground floor and basement levels
- All builders' work and electrical wiring for every system carried out by our own team
The challenge: noise
Westminster Council required plant noise to sit 10dB(A) below the minimum existing background noise level, so the system would not be audible in operation. We met this by fitting an acoustically-lined enclosure with an access door around the extract fan, with silencers incorporated within the system.
Space was also extremely tight: there was very little room in the external light-well, access had to be gained through another premises, and scaffolding was erected in the narrow light-well to install ductwork ascending onto the roof.
“I was really impressed with the professionalism of the Cool Stream Ventilation team. They did a great job on our restaurant and on the rare occasions we ran into unexpected problems they worked hard to find solutions. I would recommend them to any company looking for a well managed contractor who understand the importance of meeting deadlines.”
